Authentic fossil belemnite, preserved in its original rock. This specimen originates from Eben-Emael in Belgium and dates from the Maastrichtian, the final stage of the Late Cretaceous.

Belemnites were squid-like marine animals that lived in prehistoric seas millions of years ago. The hard, elongated rostrum is the part that was most frequently preserved as a fossil.
