Exceptional fossil specimen from the Swabian Jura in Germany, featuring a beautifully preserved Dactylioceras ammonite from the Early Jurassic (Toarcian).

Dactylioceras lived approximately 180 million years ago in the Jurassic seas. The strongly ribbed, spiral shell is characteristic of this ammonite.

What makes this specimen extra interesting is the fossil wood fragment that has been preserved in the same stone alongside the ammonite. This makes the piece a small natural time capsule from the Jurassic.
